Wolfberry products
The Chinese wolfberry, also known as the Goji Berry, comes from the Ningxia Province of China, where it is the credited reason for the extraordinary longevity in the region. The people of this area typically live up to between 120 and 150 years of age. The good health and vitality of the elderly in the region has been attributed to the wolfberry, so much so that the berry is considered a national treasure. Wolfberry products have long been among traditional Chinese folk medicines, and three are now available in South Africa. The main bioactive constituents in wolfberry products are Lycium barbarum polysaccharides, and these have an enhancing function on the body’s immune system, enhancing the body’s resistance to a number of diseases and viral infections.
There are three wolfberry products available in this country from Goji Health:
- Goji Juice – 100% pure juice from ripened Goji Berries sourced from the Ningxia and Xinjiang regions of Northwest China.
- Sundried Goji Berries – hand-picked sundried Goji Berries that are exceptionally high in Lycium barbarum polysaccharides
- Goji-LPB-X – an extract from the Goji Berry in capsule form - a compound polysaccharide composed of six monosaccharide chains (arabinose, rhamnose, xylose, mannose, galactose and glucose) linked with polypeptide chains.
Numerous studies have been carried out in China on the Goji Berry and its active constituents, which are used for numerous treatments including cancer prevention, HIV/AIDS, Rheumatoid Arthritis, anti-inflammatory, weight loss, cholesterol, Alzheimer’s and senility. Wolfberry products are now available in selected shops throughout South Africa, and a list of these outlets can be found on our Contact page.
