Inflammation and arthritis
Contrary to popular belief, arthritis is not confined to the over 60’s alone – it is also known to affect thousands of children. The most common form of arthritis though is osteoarthritis, which is the degeneration of the cartilage that covers the end of bones resulting in pronounced inflammation. Indeed, inflammation and arthritis go hand in hand, and it is the inflammation that causes pain.
Our body produces the enzyme superoxide dismutase, commonly called SOD, and this is the natural enzyme that fights inflammation. In an acute case of arthritis the body’s production of this enzyme is simply not sufficient to counter inflammatory pain, but clinical tests carried out in China have shown that the production of SOD is increased some 40% if the sufferer has a daily intake of Goji berries of between 10 and 30 grams.
Goji berries have naturally high levels of antioxidants, which are the means to fighting free radicals. The ingestion of Goji berries helps the body to produce the anti-inflammatory enzyme SOD and so helps to reduce the pain caused by inflammation and arthritis. Goji berries have been used in China for thousands of years, and in the region where they are grown, Ningxia Province, it is the exception not to reach 100 years of age. The good health and vitality of the people of this province is directly related to their intake of the Goji berry.
Goji berries do not only help control inflammation and arthritis, they are also exceptionally good as treatment for cancer, cholesterol levels, balancing the immune system, normalising blood pressure, Glaucoma, senility and Alzheimer’s disease.
